The Hike

Often people relate life to race. The race knowing for sure what is waiting at the end. It makes me wonder, is life just a race? or there is more than just race?

As thoughts poured in, an image of race in the form of hike came to my mind. Probably affected by the annually held event CLIMBATHON.

CLIMBATHON is the race up Mount Kinabalu, which is the pride of the country (credits to God, maker of heaven and earth). I am equalizing this to race+hike image that I just drawn in my head.

Personally, I prefer hiking more than any other ball-sports, jogging and other sports-related activities. I may not be the best but this is the best I can do and prefer to do.

Ever since young, I am brought up with the spirit of Sarawakian, the ever soaring spirit to be adventurous and hike. Though it started with very minor hikes such as the Matang waterfall with rocky landscape and few others (which I forgot the name), those time are very memorable. The memories carved so deeply I believe I will bring it along as I go through every hike.

#Hike 1

I remember once I went on a camp to Kubah National Park under my school’s Photography Club camp. It was an hour plus hike into the waterfall. There is not much earth to step on but more of steps. The going in was not as bad as climbing out. Imagining going in walking down the steps which I didn’t even count but I believe it is more than few hundreds. Steep as it is, me and CST managed to climb back out. It was so tiring and exhausting. At first we both are very doubtful that we can make it out in time for lunch or even before one of us fainted as we ran out of water. Nevertheless, we walked on. Step by step up the unending steps in front of us. Suddenly, we saw a bottle of iced water at the end of the steps. How faithful our God is! I believe it must be someone before us who either dropped it or leave it behind due to the straneous hike. But how surprise they would be if they know they actually saved someone after them. That was back when I was in Form 3.

#Hike 2

The next experience is in youth camp. This is another hike into the waterfall. This time it is with AJ and the youth. This is also another miraculous hike. It was just a normal hike into the waterfall to bathe. Refreshing and fun indeed seeing all the youths getting crazy. As we start to move back to the camp, suddenly TR slipped from a rock. *SPLASH* We all turned and suddenly all of us panicked. She was holding her leg in pain. Shivering, shaking, shocked is all over her face. MP tried to calm her down while JL checked her leg. JL said something I can’t be sure of and the next thing I remember was TR fainted. It was a good thing that we had bumiputras there who knows what to do in the nature when accidents happened. In a while, a stretch was built to carry her out. This ain’t an easy task as we are far in the jungle and we went through ups and downs with muds and rivers to reach the waterfall. Ensuring that she is tied properly to the stretch, the journey begins. I was the only girl there. Since there is nothing I can help, I was asked to pray alongside. The guys carried the stretch and I followed from behind. It was a very innocent prayer. “Lord, let TR see Jesus and she will be healed.” TR was shivering on the stretch and screaming from time to time. The guys had to put her down to ensure that she will not fall from the stretch as she struggled. MP and JL prayed for her as she struggled (we are thinking that its either demon-possessed or she is in shocked even though she fainted). The journey continues. How we came in, the guys have to go out carrying a stretch. Until one point, they reach the small hut outside the jungle. They have no more energy. All of them sat down while I ran ahead to call for the pastor. I ran all the way out and up a hill to look for the pastor. The search finally ended in success and we quickly asked the pastor to come and pray for TR as everyone is almost at the verge of giving up. Just when we are all going in, suddenly we all see the whole troop coming out. At first I thought, “Oh no, is she…?” Tears streamed down my cheeks. All of a sudden, I saw her walking in front of me. Confused, I stood there. Someone told me just when everyone almost give up, suddenly TR sit up, struggling to get up. “Jesus is there. Let me go. Jesus is there.” She keeps pointing to the front. MP and JL didn’t know whether she is demon-possesed but out of faith, MP released her. She went front and hug the air. After that, she came and talked to MP and JL on things Jesus told her to tell them. I do not know what is it all about. But I do know one thing, my prayer, the real meaning actually means to die.Only when you are dead you will see Jesus. I almost suffocated. I walked the opposite direction and cried and cried. I didn’t know that was the whole truth of the prayer but I know now that God sees our heart and He knows even before we asked.

#Hike 3

Another hike that is impactful would be the hike to one of the Sarawak interior village under LAP team EPCC. That, was a wonderous hike. 6 hours just to hike in, with 45 degree hike, thank God with steps. We stopped in between and rested. But it was indeed a hike that is challenging. This brings me to ponder on hike as a journey. Once you started, there is only one way to go. Up. If you go down, you will never achieve your initial objective of being there. Let’s not be people who turn back  or stop and give up due to fear, tiredness and distractions. Unless you are injured, other than that, there is no reason why you should turn back. Along that journey itself, I have learnt many lessons. Painful but I hope i have learnt from them. There is more once we reach the village. Amazingly, the hike was what I remember of. More than the visit. This is bad but I guess it is always better than remembering nothing.

There are a few more hikes that I have done…Bukit Jambul in Penang and Broga Hill in Kuala Lumpur. Not all are very impactful but to me, the hike itself to reach the top is a motivation to continue to go on. Knowing that once you reach the top, there is bright daylight. There is the feeling of relief as if many burdens are put aside. Taking a deep breath of fresh air away from all the polluted air down there. Isn’t this what everyone need? A time away from all the things that are hindering us from getting to clear ground and refresh ourselves. OF COURSE this is not DRUGS on high. This is different. Remember Jesus and Moses seek God up in a hill. Up in the hill is where they can be away from the crowd and seek God whole heartedly.

Now, what say you? Is hiking a journey that is worth taking? If it is not a physical hike, what about spiritual hike? Come’ on! Take up the challenge. Don’t be stagnant where you are. If you are hiking and you stay there, you will either be frozen, die of hunger or you may be consumed by the ‘residents’ of the forest. God knows what could appear. Spiritual hike, stagnant is dangerous. As time move on, you may convince yourself that you are spiritually ok. OK is not enough. Too many fall, some don’t even know they fall to the trap of the enemy because they believe they are ok. Someone that is changed by God would not stay stagnant and say that they are ok. They will go out to touch the lives of people, not for their own sake but for God’s glory. They will go out to change the world (Literally!). You can make a difference because God has make a difference in your life. OK is not enough. God does not meant for you to be OK. He has wonderful plans for you, just waiting for you to take the step of faith.

Its a challenging road ahead but God has never let us take it alone. Whoever say that gaining life is easy? Look at the world. People are chasing money, career, reputation… and do you think that is easy? No. What they are chasing is approval of men. No I’m not saying all these are wrong. Money is important. But don’t let it consume you. Career is important. Everyone need to work to live. I personally don’t believe in sitting there jobless expecting to receive money from heaven. Reputation is important. Even Godly men have good reputation. But not just by achievement, its by conduct. What we are looking at is far more than this. It is eternal treasure. Something that you will not find on earth. All the things on earth will be gone one day. And what do you have left? Assurance of life with our Creator and the God of heavens and earth. HE has said it clearly, heavens and earth will passed away, but my Word will remain. His Word. The Bible. What he say is what is true. Follow His Word, and you are following Him. He has said that if you accept Jesus Christ as your Saviour and Lord, you are saved. If you repent of the wrong things you do, promise not to do it again, you are forgiven.

1John 1:9-If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all righteousnesss.

There is alot that has been said in the bible. Just waiting to be unconver as we discover. There has always been people who doubt. Always asking why this and why that… Well, why not just give it a try? See for yourself who is Jesus. Be ready to see… that as God go ahead before you, your hike will be challenging and exciting. Count on God to make this life on earth one with no regrets.

Another Day Alive!

Waking up remembering how God has kept me alive twice in a month shows me how good my God is. The joy that arises from it knowing God has sent his angels to watch over me is indeed a comfort knowing each day is watched over by my heavenly Father.

Two recalls of events for the month of December 2012 which i mentioned above Smile

1 December 2012

Its a wonderful Saturday. I have my day planned out as usual. Gym first (healthy morning), lunch @ KLCC, then head to OUM (Open University Malaysia) to submit my form for Postgraduate Diploma in Education (be a teacher woots!).

Went to gym, suppose to have PT with B, ended up cancelled due to car breakdown. So in the end just exercise. WJ was there also as usual my gym kaki. She decided to travel with me all the way to Shah Alam Learning Centre (OUM) since she has never been there. So taking U80 (which we waited for quite sometime but the next day I saw it like so frequent, it is always when you want that it won’t come. haha.), we head towards Shah Alam.

Long journey. An hour. When we reach there, we have to walk 10 minutes to the Pusat Perniagaan Worldwide from Tesco (the place where the bus stop, which eventually we found out ada back way around 6 minutes walk), we didn’t know which blok was which. While I was depending on my handphone GOOGLE MAP (having data plan may not be a blessing at times Smile with tongue out), WJ resolved to asking a HONDA staff who just finished his meal and came out from the shop. The guy came out and pointed us the way. The wind was so nicely blowing, actually so strong that our hairs are all over. The next thing you know, *PIANG**** All of us turned around. The shop signboard (glass) actually fell off the hook and was broken into pieces, RIGHT WHERE WE WERE ALL STANDING! (Me, WJ, and all the HONDA staff!) I shivered thinking of it. It didn’t occur to me that we could have been the victim until WJ mentioned. I was thanking God for saving my life. If not, there goes my application for OUM and Christmas in hospital.

True story. No MSG added. Thanking God for a wonderful day after that meeting up with SH and watching Twilight! Even got a picture of a train in a tunnel due to technical problem which caused ours to stop in the tunnel! Praise God for another day alive and good experience and I love Twilight! Smile

8 December 2012

A great morning to begin with SmileWaking up knowing today we have annual dinner at Jogoya in Starhill Gallery! Smile Happily I hop to LRT and head towards my station. I took the usual route of just walking the small road to my office. In front of me a car turn in. Since I am walking against traffic, presumably there would be no danger, or at least I thought. This car turn in with high speed. Me, being the usual ignorant lady, just continue walking.

Suddenly, the car swerve to the right and its heading towards my direction! I was stunned and stood there, blood draining from my faces. But, the car swerve back to the left and as it passed, i saw a whole on the tar road. Then only the pieces start to form itself in my head and tell my brain to release my sudden stiffness of legs and hands. The car was AVOIDING the hole. Not LOST CONTROL. Phewww.. Imagine that relief. But the thought of death actually occured to me on that morning. The feeling of blood drained from my face… so that’s how the people that was about to die felt. More of shocked and stunned though.

Thank God for another day alive! It kinds of teach me that though things may seem normal and routine, certain times situation can still get out of control. The assurance is if we are God’s children, we are not alone, whether alive or death. The children of God know their destination and am happy to leave earth to their Heavenly Father. It teaches me that in every situation, let God be the God that oversees and watches over our life. We may think that what we have full control, but situation like this brings us to realization that our time on earth are limited to as much as God plans for us to be. Treasure every moment. Live every moment. You will not regret it… at all when you look back and know that God is always watching over you and never give up on youSmile

God is good, all the time!

All the time, God is good!

Deep thoughts

A few days ago I manage to read up a bit on the Yeoh family. Not a deep research but I am amazed at the family and the younger generation. There is one sentence that young Jacob Yeoh say that caught my attention, “The acorn doesn’t fall far from tree.” This is indeed quite true. A glance at Tan Sri Dato’ Yeoh Tiong Lay who is now 81, we would wonder how much effort is put into this Yeoh family business. His action of planting the seed lead to the success of his sons and whose legacy is then continue by Tan Sri Francis Yeoh, who is the Managing Director of the YTL Group, and his son Jacob Yeoh who is believed to be next in line.

Looking at the Yeoh family, it just brings about the thought of my own family. One thing I believed the Yeoh family has never failed to do is to let God define their step. The legacy that is passed down is one that I believe every family should have, or rather I hope my family will have when Clictus and me have our family. Grandparents play a role in the bringing up of the next generation. However, parents is still the main role model in the childrens’ life. However busy we are, it should be our first priority to spend time with the children teaching them different aspects of life as they grow up. This is what I pray for our family. Setting the right direction is crucial to ensure the right legacy is continue as the children grow up, have their own family, or even when they go out and explore the world.

The best

You know in our life journey, we have always heard we are waiting for the one to be for our spouse? Certain times we define the best as in the perfect one. But I have one question to ask, who is perfect except Jesus Christ? Many times we observe and we think that ‘Oh, he/she is the perfect one for me.’ I did that before as well, proven *ETTT*. Now if you ask me, is Clictus perfect? I will tell you, no, he is not perfect, BUT, he is the perfect match for me. Someone perfect from external appearance may not be perfect for you. You see, God made Adam and Eve, and Eve is made from Adam’s rib. One Adam One Eve. From here we can see that not everyone can have the same opinion of one people. Even if they do, those who stay with them would say otherwise. Thus, this tells us ‘don’t judge a book by its cover.’

Why am I putting in this paragraph? Well, I have been thinking of we girls generally like to hope to have rich spouse. Do we actually know what comes with wealth? It is not just shopping and spending. Responsibility comes along. There is also this saying in Cantonese and Chinese, 没有这样大的头就别戴这样大的帽子. Haha.. forgive me but I was having my thoughts and I think it is quite true. Well, unless the rich family is mostly anchored by man and woman are to be housewives and look after the family. Even then, social is also part of the job of the wife. Hm.. am I wrong now? hahah… just thoughts of life. Probably watched too much drama series the past few years. Not saying you can’t upgrade your status in society, there are always exceptions. However, first, improve yourself, in character and in maturity, then your life is worth living because you know you are not living to please others, but to please the Creator, God of heaven and earth.

Z Checklist

In life, there are many checklist to do. You have work, daily life, weddings, camps, friends… ALL KINDS. Hence the life that is never a boring and stagnant life. You just gotta keep going.

As the quote goes, life is a never ending journey. There is always something to learn, as long as you are ready and willing to take the step.

Now, this checklist that is so ever crucial that I personally still find it very useful and timely is a checklist for personal growth in character, maturity, and senses.

Well, i haven’t really formed the checklist as to do that, i think i would faint doing it myself. There is just so much to be improved and checked on there is no way a list will do. Ain’t easy to live now is it? Coz we are NOT PERFECT.

Now, I am going to refer to the Bible, coz I believe the Bible teaches us on how to be us, as it is stated that we are made in God’s image.

The basic list that we should have at least, is LOVE list.

You might ask, what love list? isn’t love love? Yes love is love. But what constitutes LOVE?

1 Corinthians 13:4-8

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily wronged,it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. LOVE never fails.

To start off, God sent his son Jesus Christ for us as he loves us. And we can see from the many events that happened, people flocked to Jesus as they know that Jesus has something that no one on earth has, besides the fact that he is given the authority to cast out demon and also to heal people. Even that, he did out of love for His people. Love, is always easily said than done.

Therefore, the checklist is therefore, this few verses. Replace your name into it and ask, is there anywhere lacking that I can improve? There you go.

The Armour of God

A topic that seems familiar yet not too familiar.

During the times of university life, Tien Hui led us in a bible study on the ARMOUR OF GOD. Now I am reminded once again of the importance of having the armour of God daily.

The full armour of God is found in the book of Ephesians 6:10-18. This is what it says:

10  Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.

Everyday is a new and wonderful day as we hold on strong in the Lord and know that his mighty power will bring you through all the brainstorms of the world.

11Put on the full armour of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.

When you are wearing the armour, you can stand strong and stand tall against the devil’s schemes, which can happen in many ways through accidents, friends, families, you name it. With the armour, you are protected and ready.

12For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of the dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Know that our struggles in life is not physically focused, but it is against the power of darkness that rule over the world. By saying that, we are saying that the world in controlled by the evil one as stated in 1 John 5:19

We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.

Also, the spiritual forces are at war as the world is at war.

13Therefore put on the full armour of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

Having the full armour of God is useless if you do not know how to use the armour. Wear the armour, know how each piece functions for protection and to attack. With that confidence of knowing what you have and how it can be used to fight and protect, you will stand strong against the enemy.

14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled round your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place,

Belt- the piece that holds everything together. In the olden days, the armours, swords are all connected to the belt. It is the one that holds the upper part of the armour and also the lower part. The sword is kept there.

Breastplate – The breastplate stays in front of your heart. Thus, it protects your heart from being strike straight through which kills you instantly. The heart is very fragile and the core organ that sustains our life. What is righteousness? It means always being right with God, by believing and having faith that God is right. With that faith, we know that whatever that comes our way, God has overcome and we are overcomer as we trust in Him.

15and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.

Feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace means wearing sandals/shoes. With shoes, you are ready to go on the road no matter how rough and rocky the road is. The confidence that you bring with you when you have a sandal/shoe ensures that there is no doubt but peace in mind and heart as you go forth. The readiness to go, couple with the gospel of peace, you know that where you go you are ready to share the good news with a peaceful heart as you are prepared and armed.

16In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.

The shield of faith- A shield does not just stop the arrow from striking the soldier but also is used to charge forth and fight. This is how our faith should be like. It prevents us from being beaten down by others who challenge our faith and at the same time is the force that pushes us forward as we are sure of our cause of war.

17Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.

The helmet of salvation- The helmet of salvation ensures that your minds are not attack by the evil thoughts that robs you of your assurance of salvation. Knowing and believing that you are saved by the grace of God and blood of Jesus Christ, we are assured of our salvation. No doubts will be able to penetrate this confidence as long as we know that this is God’s promise and God’s assurance to those who choose to follow Jesus Christ.

The sword of the Spirit- The Word of God. Against the devil nothing works, except the Word of God. This will be our sword to fight. Our sword to return the grenades and the bam and the bang. Thus, it is important to strengthen it and learn to hold it well.

18And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.

Pray in the Spirit- First glance speaking in tongues came to mind. But as I think about it, i believe it is not just about speaking in tongues, but praying as the Spirit leads you to. It may be something that burdens your heart. This, I believe, can refer to Philippians 4:6-7. Prayer is always powerful, yesterday, today and tomorrow.

Kuala Lumpur

P/S : This was suppose to be posted on 5 August 2012.

I have officially move down to the CITY. The first thing that came to mind is, JAM. Second thing, DANGER.

This is the beginning of a new journey. A journey called the WORKING WORLD. Working World + Kuala Lumpur = Busy + Danger. No wonder everyone say, ” Enjoy your UNI life. You will missed it when you start working. ” However, I personally, thus far, don’t mind working life. Maybe because so far besides sobbing for no reason, the real work has yet to start. Thumbs up for the first 3 days of work :)

As for the life in my accommodation area, things are going quite well. Today I just met my new housemate. God bring people at the right time. Today I was planning to go watch Datuk Lee Chong Wei’s match alone, but she insisted to come with me even though she doesn’t really want to watch. So I was accompanied :) Isn’t that just blessing at the nick of time?

I am blessed with a decent accommodation as well. Air-conditioner, fan, nice housemates, nice area, food, all that I need. And, the unbelievable thing is, on my own, I have only found one advertisement on that is reasonable for my fresh start in KL, came and look at the place, got it! God is really good :)

I realize too often we neglect the small little things that God has bless us with. And, I think God deserve all the glory for loving us so much. So, instead of always being negative over little things and focusing on the black dot on the paper, I have decided to focus on the white background and get things going! :)

I remember this story on Coke where there are two experiment done. First, there is this person, bought a Coke, put it on the table, scold the Coke everyday. At the end of a week, the Coke turned bad. Second, this person bought another Coke. Everyday speak good words to the Coke. At the end of one week, the Coke taste better. I have never tried doing that. But I believe the message here is, BE POSITIVE.

” Is there no life in Christ? ” – quoted from Senior Pastor of Acts Church, Pastor Kenneth Chin.
God promised us this abundant life in John 10:10
” The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. “
When you focus on God, on who He is, who you are and who you can be through Him, you will know that the thief (the Devil) comes to steal, kill and destroy what God wants to give you. Hold on to what God has promised, and you will be okay. So, here starts this journey of mine in KL. It ain’t gonna be easy. As where things around you are negative, you tend to be affected without even you realizing the change. Thus checking yourself is crucial daily. Be sure to wear the armor of God daily. I shall continue on the armor of God and checking ourselves in another post. Till then,

Psalm 150:6
” Let everything that has breath praise the Lord, PRAISE THE LORD. “
